Easy, Adorable Toddler Girl Hairstyles

Super Cute Toddler Hairstyles to Switch it Up

Toddler hair is WILD, y’all. If you have a toddler you know what I mean. There is simply no leaving it down. Do that and go out in public and you’ll have child services knocking down your door for neglect. Sure that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but you know what I mean. You brush that soft toddler hair out, set your toddler down to play, and the next thing you know your perfectly groomed angel looks like they’ve been through a hurricane, their hair splayed wildly across their face in varying directions.

So you solve this by pulling all that hair up into a ponytail every day. Of course, that little pony looks adorable. It’s on the cutest human being in the world. However, sometimes it gets boring and you just want to change up your little one’s style. I’ve totally got you! Hair ties is in our blog title after all.

My girls were both born with huge heads of hair, so I’ve been fighting to keep these gorgeous locks out of my little one’s eyes since they were barely walking. I’m starting to become some kind of an expert. *pats myself on the back* I have no real experience with doing hair, and mine usually looks like a complete and utter disaster itself. I have no business here, but I love doing my girls’ hair. It is so much fun, and my oldest especially loves getting to try out new styles and pick out different colored hair ties and bows.

Keeping Your Toddler Still

Of course, there are a couple keys to being able to do toddler hair with any kind of ease. Toddlers are best known for sitting still and listening to the things you ask of them, right? So, so very wrong. They’re going to try to run around and whip their head in every direction while you try to style their hair. (There was a period of time where every time I tried to put my eldest’s hair up she would run around singing “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” while I clung to her pony for dear life, sweating as I tied in her hair tie.) I’ve found two things that work relatively well for keeping my daughters in place while I get their hair in order. The first, and I feel most obvious option, is screen time. This is one of the rare occasions where I will find my kids sitting still for longer than a millisecond. Of course, there’s the whole “screen time is the devil” debate. I’m willing to let that slide for the sake of securing the hair to the top of my girls’ heads. The second method that I’ve found to be effective is to stand them on their bathroom stool at the sink. They can watch in the mirror, brush their teeth, or simply play with the faucet. These things keep them busy enough that I can get a decent hairstyle in place.

Must-Have Toddler Hair Styling Tools

A couple other things that are important to note before we get into the cute hairstyles (I know, I know. Just stay with me now), you’re going to need some tools at your disposal. My girls are blessed with some serious curls. If this is your little one too, I’ve got some recommendations for you! This hair brush, The Knot Dr. for Conair, has changed our curly haired LIVES. My entire life, I ripped through my curls causing so much damage. Thanks to this brush, my girls barely know what a tug feels like. Knots? What knots? I am not kidding you. We have given this brush to literally every female in our family. Just get one. You can thank me later. I also find that brushing the girls’ hair dry is simply not an option unless we want poof for days. To combat that we use a simple spray bottle full of water like this one on amazon. After applying moisture to the girls’ hair, I add a spritz or two of Pravana Nevo Intense Therapy Leave-In Treatment which cuts brush time in half by magically erasing the tangles. My mother-in-law introduced us to this one. She actually was a hairdresser so she knows what’s good, and this stuff is a miracle working substance. My life was forever changed by this product, much like it was with the discovery of The Knot Dr. My hair is so much happier now, and my girls won’t have to suffer the way I did for 24 years. Finally, these rat tail combs are just what you need to get the perfect part in your little one’s hair. Trust me.

10 Super Easy and Cute Toddler Hairstyles

Without further ado, here are some cute styles I’ve tried on my own girls to give you some inspiration to switch it up from that daily ponytail. We will tame the toddler hair monster together!

Basic Toddler Pigtails

Toddler Pig Tail Hairstyle

Toddler Girl Hairstyle: Pig Tails

This is your really basic upgrade from a single pony. Just do pigtails! One pony on both sides of your sweet girl’s head. It doesn’t get easier than this!

Criss-Cross Pigtails

Easy toddler Hairstyle

Bump up your pigtail game with these criss-cross pigtails! Simply, divide the hair into four sections, make two pigtails on top, then cross them, and tie them into the bottom two pigtails. You can add clips or bows for a little extra cuteness!

Faux-Braid Pigtails

Adorable Faux-Braid Pigtails

Toddler Girl Hairstyle: Faux-Braid Pigtails

This faux braid is SO easy and looks super cute! All you have to do is tie a bunch of ponytails and pull them through each other. This is also called a pull-through braid for this very reason. We added a little extra pizzaz here by tying the braid into pigtails. Of course, our girl wanted to add a bow too!

Bubble Braid Pigtails

Toddler Girl Hairstyle: Bubble Braids

The bubble braid is making a comeback! These are super fun and add a little spice to your standard pigtails. Use colorful hair ties to match your toddler’s outfit. We often do fun hairstyles on gymnastics days, hence the color coordination with the leotard.

Double Pull-Through Braid

Toddler Faux Braids

That pull-through braid from earlier? Just multiply that by two and do one on each side of your toddler’s head for another upgraded pigtail look!

Triple-Tied Pony

Toddler Triple-Tied Pony

Toddler Girl Hairstyle: Triple-Tied Pony

I love these! They are so easy and create such a beautiful hairstyle. Create three sections on both sides of your toddler’s head. Tie a hair tie, making a pony out of the front most section. Tie that pony into the middle section, and continue the pattern as long as you like. Bring the sides together to one ponytail in the center and secure with a hair tie. That’s it! You’re done, and everyone is going to wonder how you did it! I won’t tell them how easy it was if you don’t.

Triple-Tied Pigtails

Toddler Girls Hairstyle: Triple-Tied Pigtails

This is the same as the triple-tied pony, only you don’t bring the hair together at the middle. Simply tie off the ends and leave them as pigtails. SO CUTE!

Pull-Through Cornrows

Adorable Pull-through cornrows

Toddler Girl Hairstyle: Pull-Through Cornrows

I don’t even know what these are, but they remind me of when my oldest brother had corn rows. Just do a bunch of little pull-through braid around your toddler’s head. Then gather the hair at the middle, tie it, and add a bow. *Chef’s Kiss*

Butterfly Pigtails

Butterfly Pigtails

Toddler Girls Hairstyle: Butterfly Pigtails

These look advanced, but are so easy it’s unreal. Make a standard pigtail on both sides of your toddler’s head. Make a section between where the elastic meets the head. Then, pull the ponytail through. Pinch the elastic between your fingers and push the hair up into this butterfly shape. Secure with a bobby pin or two, and that’s it! We added some hair gems for effect.

Criss-Cross Braid Space Buns

Toddler Girls Hairstyle: Criss-Cross Braid Space Buns

Our final super cute, super easy hairstyle is space buns with some criss-cross braid action! Take two small sections at the front of your toddlers head and braid them. Section the rest of the hair in two and make two buns. Cross the braids over each other and pin them into the buns. Boom. You’ve done it again! Another stunning little girl hairstyle in the books.

Give These a Try!

I encourage you to try out these hairstyles with your little one. Do not let them fool you! They truly are so easy, and the more you do them, the easier they become. Your little girl is going to feel so special wearing her hair in these unique styles. I love watching her beam when she gets compliments on her hair. It is so worth the five extra minutes to add a little something to the every day hairstyle. Comment below if you decide to try any of these out!
